Two Bedrooms and a Baby
Our blog is a mix of urban parenting and home decor/diy.
Easy Entree Dinner
- Published on Thursday, 10 May 2012
Authors: GiGiWe're back on track this week with eating and money.
When we work on a cash only basis, I have to plan visits to the grocery store - which means I have to meal plan, which means I plan healthy meals.
I found a recipe on Epicurious that was delightful: Salmon Panzanella.
Mainly vegis, really light, but the bread is super satisfying.
Recovering our Dining Room Chairs
- Published on Sunday, 06 May 2012
Authors: GiGiLooking back in the blog, I've been hating my dining room chair's upholstery since April of last year (yup - 13 months ago). I've bought fabric twice and hated it both times.
My curtain fabric makes me a little insecure about my ability to match so I was looking for something toned down and mellow.
Again, we have a house exchange...
Our closet is bare!
- Published on Friday, 04 May 2012
Authors: GiGiWe have four closets in our house.
Two in the bedrooms, one in the hall, and one in the entry way. That's it.
The two "public" closets are awkward to say the least.
Take closet 1 for example:
It is supposed to be the "coat closet" (note the bar across the top). But...it is SUPER deep and very narrow. If you put...
Attaching our Headboard to the Wall
- Published on Monday, 30 April 2012
Authors: GiGiOur headboard has been through a lot with us.
In June 2011, I found her.
In July 2011, she got painted turquoise (and I made a plan to cut off her legs).
In November, she got painted white.
It has been quite the transformation.
Problem is - NOTHING has happened since July. We have a really short bed (no box spring and a low...
Hiding our TV - Again
- Published on Wednesday, 25 April 2012
We originally bought the Expedit because I hated the idea of having a TV in the living room, but there were just no other options in our new house. I figured I could hide the TV somehow.
Using the fabric wall hanging that used to be over our bed, we cut out the frame and hemmed it to size.
First we used tension rods to hang...
Montessori style floor bed
- Published on Monday, 23 April 2012
Authors: GiGiI've gotten a few questions about T's floor bed, so I thought I'd show pictures to show how easy it is to build.
We moved T to a big boy bed when he was 8 months old. We were (well I was) super frustrated that I couldn't do the transfer without waking him. I would nurse him to sleep in our bed then try to move him to his crib. He...
Updates in Parenting
- Published on Monday, 23 April 2012
Authors: GiGi22 months rocks big time.
Our little guy cleans up his toys when he leaves a room. Like every time. Even at his cousin's house. I know I'm supposed to love him unconditionally, but I love him more when he does this.
He come RUNNING through the house yelling "HELP DISHES" if he hears someone running the water. And he actually DOES...

Authors: GiGiSo, um, we're a little behind on Mad Men.
Tim and I jumped up in the middle of Season 5, Episode 1 when we saw this:

Because, we'd just done this:
Tim brought that gold metallic "sculpture?" home a few years ago from a junk store. I was seriously against it. SERIOUSLY.
He would have our entire...
Changing up a lamp shade
- Published on Thursday, 12 April 2012
Authors: GiGiWe bought some lamps at our favorite junk store. I thought they would be easy to fix up and would look great in the rumpus room.
They appeared to have plaster bases that are formed to look like wood and painted brown.
The chips look horrible because they are clearly white and not just rustic brown.
The tops were groovy, but a little...
I was not prepared for Easter
- Published on Sunday, 08 April 2012
Authors: GiGiWe aren't doing Santa, so I think that pretty much means we won't do the Easter Bunny. A few days ago the weather started feeling like Spring and I got in the mood for Easter. This surprised the heck of out me. I LOVE Christmas, but Easter? Wha?
I bought flowers and decorated my new windowsill (installed with the 'remodel') with...
