Our blog chronicles the lives of two thirty-somethings living and loving in Oakland. We talk a lot about food, wine, travel and our house - a 1916 Craftsman in a part of town that was once described as "up and coming."

I spent the better half of the week down in Santa Cruz for a work offsite and the weather was glorious - cloudy, foggy, misty, highs in the upper 50s. I was so pleased and giddy. People think I'm a loon. When I left the event yesterday at 1:30 p.m. it was 59 degrees. By the time I got back to our house it was 85 degrees. Not...

With all the talk of autumn arriving (elsewhere in the country, not here), I've been coveting all the wonderful food, beverage, and clothing bloggers have been posting. My favorite thing about cold weather is an opportunity to wear boots and sweaters and berets. Now that I have long hair, the beret thing is much easier to...NEW BEDROOM RUG ON ITS WAY

We have a white shag rug in our bedroom. I loved it when we first got it. So nice and fluffy and bright. And then we walked on it. For years. And Dakota vomited on it. And maybe had an accident or two or ten (although with her we think it's less accidental and more on purpose). And what was fun and fluffy two years ago is now...COOKING AT THE CASA: CLAM CHOWDER

With the removal of my wisdom tooth, I've been eating a lot of soup lately. This isn't necessarily a terrible thing since I happen to love a good soup. I also happen to be pretty good at cooking good soups, so there's that. After a couple of days of pureed varieties, I was looking forward to something that was still soft...

I posted a picture this morning on Instagram of the baked french toast we made for breakfast and several people wrote to me asking for the recipe so here it is.1/2 loaf of Acme or Semifreddi sourdough (if you don't have Acme or Semi in your area, go with the best possible loaf you can afford - crunchy outside and fluffy...

I just can't keep up with the mess that is my house. It would probably only take me 30 minutes to clean this room but my body is saying "don't you dare get up." I've been saying for years that we need a housekeeper. I'm iffy on the idea of a stranger going through my stuff though. Do any of you have housekeepers? If so, how...SEPTEMBER = CRAZY

Wow, this month is just flying by.First we spent a week in Kauai. That was awesome.
Two days after we got back I flew to Portland for work. On the way back I flew in to Santa Rosa instead of Oakland so that we could attend a wedding near Mendocino. It was a beautiful, intimate event and I'm so glad we were able to make it work.

I'm sitting here in my office and it's warm. Like, I'm sweating because we don't have AC kind of warm. Meanwhile, my sister Jenny is across the country, sitting on her porch wrapped in warm woolen sweaters, and breaking out the jackets for the kiddos. Autumn is a weird time in the Bay Area. When most of you are in the throws...KAUAI DAY 8

Beginning the night before, it started raining hard up on the North Shore. I woke up in the middle of the night and it was still raining. When we woke up in the morning, more rain. We had talked about going to Secret Beach but between the weather, the likely muddy hike, and my sore right thigh, we decided instead to drive...
