Letterbox 88

Letterbox 88 is our creaky old queenslander in the countryside, just outside of Brisbane, Australia. We moved here a year ago with the two cats and now we have Baby as well. I'm a clothes horse, cook, collector, decorator, op shop addict and arranger of things.

Home rearrangements

Authors: Lavender

The threat of impending visitors for Baby's birthday party last weekend was a wonderful motivator to have a good reorganise of some neglected corners of the house. Some of these projects have been on my 'do' list for ages so I'm feeling pretty happy with the way things look right now.

I painted this lamp base flouro pink and...

Baby's first birthday

Authors: Lavender

Yesterday we had a party for Baby's first birthday. I know all mothers say this but I can't believe he's one already. It's been the best year.

Before we get to the party shots I must warn you this was my first chance to dabble in the world of children's parties and it's just possible I got a little carried away.

Also, (and I'm...

Brisbane's best ramen (really)

Authors: Lavender

Baby and I met J in town for lunch. Taros is the only place in the Brisbane CBD I ever want to eat when I'm asked. It's on Adelaide St, across the intersection from the Christie Centre.

The tonkotsu makes me weep with pleasure.

I'm trying to turn and get a back shot of this 80s shirt here. I failed, but the back is complicated...

Op shop finds

Authors: Lavender

Giddy up.

I've never seen one of these cane rocking horses before, but I found a few of them trawling Google so they must have been fairly common once. I want to give her a bit of a makeover but I'm not sure exactly what do yet. She's the perfect size for Baby right now.

I already have a little yellow vintage picnic set, but all...

Of garage sales and skeggings

Authors: Lavender

It's so good to have a clear out isn't it?

We have such a massive shed here but somehow we managed to fill it to the brim with… stuff. It was time for action.

This is how early we got up to set things up, but apparently people in the country don't turn up hours early to garage sales like they do in the city and we didn't have...

Invitations to my arm party

Authors: Lavender

Now that Baby is a little older and can support his own head I feel I'm able to send the Swatch to the bench for a while, break out the gold sports watch and invite some more serious hardware to my arm party.

I'm thinking charm bracelets, (but real ones, no Pandora silliness) ID bracelets and big heavy chains. These are all on...

Hair cuts and sneakers for sports haters

Authors: Lavender

Yesterday I went to the hairdresser. Rapture. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a haircut so entirely.

I know it doesn't sound like much, but visits to the hairdresser are one of those things I took for granted, never considering what a logistical nightmare they would be with a baby. I put it off for so long it's been at least six...

Indian Shepherd's Pie

Authors: Lavender

I made this Indian inspired Shepherd's Pie recently from a recipe torn from a magazine (Delicious, I think). I didn't have all the ingredients to hand so I did a bastardised version and it turned out to be the Best. Thing. Ever.

I think I'm going to make it again this week. It's like an Indian takeaway, but not. So good for...

Mr. Bunny relaxing after one of his frequent spa treatments (in my washing machine). He is loved that bunny. LOVED.

Do you need someone to reorganise your office supplies? He works for post-its.

Bircher breakfast in the making.

Brownies in a lazy tray. I'm sure these disposable foil trays are not very eco but I love them. I got...

White screen zen

Authors: Lavender

Things have been manic lately, but last night I achieved that pinnacle of organisational zen, an empty inbox. Behold.

I know people who like to leave email in their inbox forever, like a huge river of consciousness. I simply cannot live that way. I feel itchy just thinking about it. The very second something has been dealt with I...
