Making labels

Yesterday Shaun decided he wanted to make cookies.  From scratch, with the oldest baking essentials in the world, because I don't bake and there is no need to have fresh flour or brown sugar in our house.  I think our Baking Soda was from two years ago.  Along with the old products, there were old...

Appliances are junk

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

I realize this is not a very thankful post for the week after Thanksgiving.  Just to be clear, I am incredibly thankful for my hubby and my peanut, our wonderful families, our good jobs, our nice house, our fabulous friends.  What I'm not thankful for, is crappy appliance manufacturers who build stuff...

5 months

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

I'm a little late here, Ashford turned 5 months on November 5, but he's still 2.5 weeks away from 6 months, so I guess it could be worse.
He gave me so many cute poses and funny faces this month, that I accidentally took (and had to go through) almost 600 photos.  My eyes still haven't recovered....

Our finished kitchen - 9 months later

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

It's 9pm, I have a cold, my baby is sleeping, and I should be, too.  But I can't go to bed because I've been meaning to share the official 'after' pics of the kitchen for over a week.  Finally, here is the finished kitchen!
Here is a before, just for funsies.
We mostly finished it in February...

Renovation Roadtrip Results

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

Ooo, all the words in my title started with R!  That is how you BLOG, people!  I wanted to show you all what Meryl and Chris did to our house.  Because, rest assured, I didn't do much but act goofy and take pictures.  Anywho, we originally wanted to tackle our sad storage space of a basement,...

Halloween quickie

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

That title sounds dirty, but it's not.  My house is, though.  I have been without my husband since Sunday morning, so not much has been going on but baby-pacifying and staying-alive stuff.  Our Maytag Bravos washing machine (4 years old and $800 when we bought it) is completely broken and I'm about...

Renovation Roadtrip! (AKA: We love Meryl and Chris)

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

Shaun and I got a real treat yesterday at 6pm when the amazing, handy, and incredibly likeable Meryl and Chris from Picardy Project brought their Renovation Roadtrip to our door.  Meryl instantly hugged me and then carried Ashford all over the house, and I didn't even get a picture of it.  I also didn't...

4 months and life's better

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

I swear my baby reads my blog.  Last week I was about to run screaming into Lake Michigan, and this week he is doing better.  I can't tell you how much I loved reading all your awesome comments, and the advice is appreciated.  Of course I know the main reason I'm doing so well this week...my...

Survival mode

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

That is what I’m in right now. At least, I think you could classify my day-to-day as surviving. I’m alive in the technical sense, but not so much in the ‘I feel so ALIVE!’ sense.
(Since this post is kind of a bitchfest, I’m peppering in some cute pictures of my baby to prove that no matter what I say, I love him a

Function over form

Authors: Sara @ Russet Street Reno

You might not know this, but I don’t like useless things that are pretty.  My throw pillows are used (great to prop up the boppy!), my books are read, my candles are burned, my bud vases and ball jars hold flowers from my garden in the summer.  You will never see me do a post on styling a bookshelf b...
