Front Porch: Various Updates and Quotes

Authors: saaraah

There are a few porch progress updates from this past week:

Door repair - The door guy recommended by my contractor came to check out the upper door's rotten sill.  His plan is to rip out all of the rotten wood, replace with new, and cap with metal.  Someone along the way removed the original stone sill and retrofitted the...

13th Anniversary

Authors: saaraah

As I told my friend, Melissa, I am so utterly shocked to say that Mat sent me flowers for our 13th anniversary.  As in, he remembered the date without nagging or hinting from me, phoned the best flower company in Kitchener (Lilies White), placed an order, and arranged for delivery.  He does not do these kinds of things...

Etsy - 13th Anniversary

Authors: saaraah

Mat and I will be celebrating our 13th anniversary tomorrow!  Egads.  I feel so old.  Even though we only got married a year and a half ago, I don't want to forget the many years we've been together.  Like my mum who completely disregards our 'living in sin' time period. ;)

Front Porch: Picking Posts and Spindles

Authors: saaraah

Today I went to our contractor's wood shop to pick up some pamphlets for choosing the porch posts and spindles.  The head office is a small room with a little window that looks into the wood shop.  I could see a guy busy at work who obviously didn't hear me come in.  I awkwardly stood there awhile wondering what to...

Kitchen: Installing an Air Admittance Valve

Authors: saaraah

As some of you may know, we've had on-going plumbing issues (one, two, three) with the kitchen sink and basement laundry tub.  Whenever the washer drains into the laundry tub in the basement, the kitchen sink glugs and gurgles very loudly and you can smell sewer gas.  The laundry tub frequently gets clogged due to lack of...

Front Porch: Permit... Still Waiting

Authors: saaraah

Porch progress has been non-existent since demolishing the old one.  Mat emailed our contractor today to see what's going on, and getting the permit has taken way longer than expected.  Go city government.... it should be ready by the end of next week.  Meaning that our original start time of the first week of April...

Shopping: New Cotton Rugs

Authors: saaraah

Lynn Spence was on Cityline this week, showcasing some fantastic wool and cotton dhurries from Homesense.  Sooo... I absolutely had to hit up my local store, since you all know that the dining room still needs an 8x10 rug.  Unfortunately, when I got to it, workers were in the processing of putting up new rugs. ...

Master Bedroom: Headboard Fabric

Authors: saaraah

Way back when, Designer Fabrics had a coral and white ikat that I LOVED and was going to use to make an upholstered headboard for the master bedroom.

But it was discontinued before I ordered it.  Me and my indecision causing sadness.

It's okay, though.  You see, patience does pay off: I actually found something else that...

Exterior: Fence, Siding, and Garden

Authors: saaraah

What a productive weekend!

On Saturday, the weather was cold and drizzly, so we went to our local Home Hardware's lumber yard to get cedar for finishing off our neighbour's fence and for building two raised garden boxes (we didn't even start making these, btw).

Of course we loaded up the car (*cough*questionably*cough*) with Mat...
