Blog of the Month - October 2011

houseblogging-blogofthemonthbadge-october2011

Over at Our Concrete Home, Andrea, Nate, and their two feline friends (Pixel & Loki) are busy making their concrete block house a home. Since purchasing their 1950's house in 2009, they've filled their blog with details on all kinds of DIY projects (including painting inside and out, replacing windows and doors, removing tired landscaping and tearing out old flooring, to name a few). Alongside their project work, they're sharing some decorating inspiration, their entertaining adventures, and the experience of being featured on Bath Crashers. Our personal favorite, though, are the Feline Friday posts featuring all of Pixel and Loki's mischief … they make us smile every time! Be sure to stop on over and get to know this great blog … we're sure you won't be disappointed!

Bottles Cans

Authors: Andrea

At some point last year, Nate decided to start collecting bottles & cans to help pay for our honeymoon. His plan was to collect as many as he could and then cash out at the local recycling place before we left for Hawaii.

Family and friends were very generous to donate their own recycling to the fund. Many evenings I would find...

The weather has been fabulous and it’s been hard to focus on a computer screen. I have a ton of posts of summer DIYs, vacations and new projects to write about and hundreds of photos to edit. I plan on just adding a few summer posts with the...

Replacing screens

Authors: Andrea

One of the things you have to remember about cats is that they are first and foremost hunters. Loki and Pixel are always hunting bugs, lizards and occasionally even a small mammal.

Now hunting doesn’t mean catching especially for our two felines. Most often, they catch moths and lizards. Nate and I do our best to rescue...

Getting the color just right

Authors: Andrea

I was honored to design the wedding stationery for my dear friends Dagny & Dean this summer. Their wedding was held at the California Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento. It’s a beautiful building that houses quite a few antique trains and memorabilia.

The format of the invitation was easy. We went with a modern take on a...

Field Notes: Summer Veg Garden 2014

I am happy to report we finally are producing ripe, beautiful tomatoes in the garden! This is an exciting moment. One of my absolute favorite things about summer are fresh tomatoes. I am so excited to make that trek to the garden every morning to find a few for my omelet.

I planted this year’s summer garden the beginning of May...
