Blog of the Month - October 2011

houseblogging-blogofthemonthbadge-october2011

Over at Our Concrete Home, Andrea, Nate, and their two feline friends (Pixel & Loki) are busy making their concrete block house a home. Since purchasing their 1950's house in 2009, they've filled their blog with details on all kinds of DIY projects (including painting inside and out, replacing windows and doors, removing tired landscaping and tearing out old flooring, to name a few). Alongside their project work, they're sharing some decorating inspiration, their entertaining adventures, and the experience of being featured on Bath Crashers. Our personal favorite, though, are the Feline Friday posts featuring all of Pixel and Loki's mischief … they make us smile every time! Be sure to stop on over and get to know this great blog … we're sure you won't be disappointed!

Happy Halloween from Midas and her fantastic animals

Authors: Andrea

Happy Belated Halloween! I hope you had a lovely evening of tricks and treats. Currently it’s about 10pm and I am lounging in sweats after scrubbing gold glitter off me for an eternity. The pain of removal was well worth it.

I took my Pinterest inspired gold painted shirt, a long black skirt, gold bangles and hoop earings then...

DIY: Gold T-shirt Embellishment

Authors: Andrea

Out of no where, I am loving the look of gold on clothing and accessories. This is a big step for me. Typically, I am more of a sterling silver girl. Maybe I am getting more bold now that I am in my mid-thirties but I have been pinning gold items like mad on Pinterest. I though it would make sense to take one of these fashion...

Brushing my Flokati

Authors: Andrea

In our bedroom, we have a 8×10 foot Flokati rug I bought after our bathroom remodel to warm up the concrete floors. I had read great reviews about the style including that they are extremely durable and can last a lifetime with proper care.

I love how the rug looks and feels but was a little concerned how exactly to keep it...

Update on the garden

Authors: Andrea

Overall, I think my veggie garden did pretty well this summer. I am still picking bunches of basil and tomatoes of the vine due to our long growing season. It’s making me a little spoiled. There’s nothing like a freshly picked tomato. Yum.

Here’s a recap of what I planted and how everything did. So much goes into a...

Three more drips

Authors: Andrea

Rainy weather came in two nights ago and with it my worry about how our roof will do this winter.

Our great room is already dripping like a sieve and just this morning I found three new drips in the front room.

Seeing them almost sent me to tears. This whole roof issue is so stressful.

I am sure some people think we are crazy to have...

Silhouette crazy

Authors: Andrea

Our Halloween decor has been pretty consistent the last few years. After my colorful Halloween rave theme in 2009, I changed direction for a more modern interpretation. My favorite prop has been animal and monster silhouettes. They are so easy to add to my current decor for a little more spooky flair.

This is the third year...
