Blog of the Month - September 2011

Since purchasing their colonial style house in the Washington, D.C. area in 2009, F and S have been busy with a whole variety of DIY home improvements and crafty projects mixed in with a bunch of tasty recipes that make our mouths water just reading about them! Most recently, they’ve just completed their project to finish their basement, including a new staircase, a pantry, a den / sewing room, a bedroom, a bathroom, a laundry closet and some storage. Whew … just reading about it is enough to make use exhausted! Now they’re tackling an even bigger project - a bedroom renovation just in time for a new addition to their family - and we’re looking forward to reading more about both. Be sure to check out the latest happenings at Our Little Beehive through the posts linked below!

Blue to Gray to

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Waaaay back when Hurricane Sandy hit, Bower Power and friends were hosting a fall Pinterest Challenge. I was so in. I had a photo pinned of a living room with a navy blue accent wall, a huge window and a white couch. I've loved that room forever. It was my inspiration for M's nursery (well that and our navy and hot pink...

Valentine's Bento

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Little M totes a bento to daycare each day along with a couple of bottles of mummy milk. On Valentine's day he'll be opening his lunch box to find this little treat.
Ok so his daycare momma will be the one doing the opening. And it's unlikely he'll notice anything except that mummy packed all of his favorites, if he even...

13 Months Down

Authors: Our Little Beehive

M turned 13 months old a few weeks ago. We spent the first half of month 13 in Maine with my parents before returning home for the New Year. Month 13 was filled with holidays and fun. Both of our Christmases were a blast!
It takes me forever to write these monthly posts, but I think I’m going to keep them up until Little...

Goodbye Sweet Lexi

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Today our family said goodbye to the sweetest dog we've ever known. My Lexi girl had the most amazing life, always surrounded by her best friends. She graduated from college with me and went to the office every day for several years with me before retiring to the farm when we went to law school. Her days were filled...

Our First CSA Box

Authors: Our Little Beehive

On a total whim, we bought a CSA share this week through Sinclair Farms. Have you ever belonged to one before? We've never had a share before so we decided to go with the single share instead of a family share. It's supposed to be enough for one person who doesn't eat out much or two people who do. I was a little...

Nutella Stuffed Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies w/ Sea Salt

Authors: Our Little Beehive

I follow Annie's Eats on Facebook and when she posted a photo of Nutella stuffed cookies the other day, I had to make them immediately. And by immediately I mean I made them a few days later because I didn't have Nutella in the house. I'd actually never tried Nutella before. Thank you, Annie, for introducing me to yet...

One Year Gone

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Baby M turned one almost a month ago. I’ve literally been writing this post for a month and am just now starting to accept that putting off a monthly update isn't going to stop time, so it's high time I hit "publish." I can't believe a full year of his little life is gone. So sad!

As a one-year-old Baby M has graduated...

Waffles for the Boy

Authors: Our Little Beehive

I'm making pumpkin, flax, oatmeal pancakes for Little M tonight using this recipe and adding a little more oil and omitting most of the milk. They're not much to look at, but they're freaking delicious.

The boy is going to go bezerk for these in the morning....

A Week of Bento Lunches

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Little M got a shallow OXO food storage container and a dozen silicone muffin liners for Christmas. His lunches are so much more organized than the half dozen little containers thrown in a cooler he was toting to daycare last year.

sausage & bean casserole, cheese, baked pumpkin oatmeal, pears, clementines

GF pizza,...
