Blog of the Month - September 2011

Since purchasing their colonial style house in the Washington, D.C. area in 2009, F and S have been busy with a whole variety of DIY home improvements and crafty projects mixed in with a bunch of tasty recipes that make our mouths water just reading about them! Most recently, they’ve just completed their project to finish their basement, including a new staircase, a pantry, a den / sewing room, a bedroom, a bathroom, a laundry closet and some storage. Whew … just reading about it is enough to make use exhausted! Now they’re tackling an even bigger project - a bedroom renovation just in time for a new addition to their family - and we’re looking forward to reading more about both. Be sure to check out the latest happenings at Our Little Beehive through the posts linked below!

ISO: The Perfect Crib

Baby M has been sleeping in the cradle that was mine as a baby since he was a few weeks old. At first he was in a bassinet in our room and then I put the bassinet inside the cradle when he was 2.5 weeks old; then at 12 weeks we retired our bassinet completely.
In a few short weeks baby M and I will go to my parents'...

Whew, that Feels Good

Authors: Our Little Beehive

I just packaged up the last of the June wedding orders for our sail bags.
This last order was for six bags, which felt like it took forever to complete. Life has certainly changed this year; I just can't pull a couple of all-nighters to sew six bags in one weekend anymore! Someone wakes up at 7:30 in the morning no...

BLW: Baby Led Wednesday - Foods with Handles

Authors: Our Little Beehive

After last week's misadventures with avocado and baby M's inability to actually get any in his mouth, a friend suggested leaving the skin on fruits and veggies to give a bit of a "handle." So this week's focus was on foods with grippy skins.

We tried a banana with a handle first by washing it well and then cutting a...

That Dang Fence

Authors: Our Little Beehive

We're closing in on the hot, hot, hot season very quickly here and that dang fence is still un-stained. It's looking increasingly like I'm going to be rolling up my sleeves, donning my overalls and doing this job myself before it gets too hot to be outside.

Problem is, I just can't decide on a stain color! I'm thinking...

BLW: Baby Led Wednesday - Green Beans Avocado

Authors: Our Little Beehive

We're in the very early stages of starting baby led weaning with baby M. Baby led weaning isn't really weaning in the U.S. meaning of the word because baby M still gets 99.9% of his nutrition from my milkies, it's a way of introducing solid foods that completely bypasses the mush of purees and cereals. No mush, no...

The Apple v. The Baby

Authors: Our Little Beehive

The fight is on!
There was no clear winner in this battle. Baby M, having no teeth, gave the apple a good, hardcore gumming. The apple, covered in drool slipped out of reach several times. Finally daddy stepped in for a few minutes to give the boy the upper hand.
As bedtime quickly approached and the apple went sliding...

My Mother's Day Closet

Authors: Our Little Beehive

I know Mother's Day was almost two weeks ago now, but I'm just now putting the finishing touches on one of S's Mother's Day gifts!

We usually make wish lists for holidays and Mother's Day was no exception. I asked S for an engraveable bracelet from baby M. Baby M gave it to me and I love it. But, S didn't stop with the...

Baby Bee's Updated Gallery Wall

Authors: Our Little Beehive

What seems like a lifetime ago, we created a gallery wall in the nursery before baby M arrived.
I had painted the frame mats navy blue and put a bunch of placeholder Feeneys in the Ikea frames anticipating that we'd need room for a birth announcement and baby M's personalized name print from Made by Girl.

One Feeney...

Baby Bee's Budding Book Collection

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Everyone I know grew up reading books before bed. When my brother and I were young, my parents read to us all the time. As we got older my mom would read longer novels to us, a few pages of a chapter each night. I don’t think we ever made it through The Yearling, but I know we were in middle school when I became a...

5 Months Today

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Baby M is 5 months old today. I say it every month, but it really is crazy how quickly time passes. This morning after breakfast M got dressed in his elephant outfit that he wears for all his monthly photos. I pulled out the 6mos size, but then decided to try the 3mos to see if it still fits and it did. Baby M was much...
