Blog of the Month - September 2011

Since purchasing their colonial style house in the Washington, D.C. area in 2009, F and S have been busy with a whole variety of DIY home improvements and crafty projects mixed in with a bunch of tasty recipes that make our mouths water just reading about them! Most recently, they’ve just completed their project to finish their basement, including a new staircase, a pantry, a den / sewing room, a bedroom, a bathroom, a laundry closet and some storage. Whew … just reading about it is enough to make use exhausted! Now they’re tackling an even bigger project - a bedroom renovation just in time for a new addition to their family - and we’re looking forward to reading more about both. Be sure to check out the latest happenings at Our Little Beehive through the posts linked below!

The Great Fence Debate, Part II

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Part one of the great fence debate two years ago centered around whether or not to enclose our side yard with a fence. Those in the "enclose" camp (me) won. Those in both camps are very glad we enclosed. Part two of the debate has been ongoing for two years: to stain or not to stain.

The fence is a focal point in our...

We Survived Another BIG Milestone

Authors: Our Little Beehive

S was away for another two whole weeks and this time baby M and I stayed home. If you recall, last time S was gone for two weeks, baby M, Feeney and I hightailed it straight to my parents' house. This time, my mom came down for most of the time S was away, but baby M and I did manage to get through another big milestone...

Tuesday Treats: Beehive Carrot Cake

Authors: Our Little Beehive

S was away for Easter this year, which really stunk given how cool the whole basket episode was. Thankfully my parents were here so I wasn't like the crazy cat lady telling the dog to "look at this, look at him, look he's grabbing...." I suppose that would have made me a crazy dog lady. Anyway, they enjoyed it and my dad...

Maddox and the Basket

Authors: Our Little Beehive

We did a basket for baby M this year expecting that it was more for us than for him. We were so wrong, so very wrong.
The Basket

Initial curiosity

Immediately grabs for the largest toy:

And then for another toy:

Bring the whole basket to me, fools

I've got bugs on my feet and hands, but I don't...

The Office Playroom

Authors: Our Little Beehive

A couple of weekends ago we moved around the furniture in my office, organized and secured the rat's nest of wires, brought in a bucket of baby toys and created an office playroom. My office before baby bee arrived was divided into two spaces, one half reading area:
And one half desk area, divided by a hutch holding...

This is How We Get it Done

Authors: Our Little Beehive

We're coming up on wedding season and several brides are buying our sail bags for their bridesmaids. Baby M wants in on the action, so this is how we get those orders done:
Of course that's a little bib I'm making in this photos. Little drooly drool face can't go to "camp" each day with a boring bib!

Four Months Down

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Our baby bee turned three months old and once again I have no idea how another month passed by so quickly or how on earth he got so big. Momma's got some good milk for that growing boy, but that doesn't explain how the heck we blinked and a month passed. What happened to that pixie dust I ordered? Can I add a...

We've Got the Moves

Authors: Our Little Beehive

Since day one I've wanted a motion light at our back door. Why no motion on this super simple project? No idea. We fixed it last weekend though when S picked up two replacement flood lights for the back door. One motion, one not. There was a $20 price different between the two. Having a motion light at our back door is...

The Un-Built-ins

Authors: Our Little Beehive

If you remember, a little while ago it was all up in the air as to whether we were staying here in the fall or taking off for somewhere else. We just recently got word that we're staying at the beehive! It's not official-official yet, but official enough that we've started planning new projects.

Our first to-do is to get...
