HOUSEography

Working with my Handy Hubby to transform our 1940 colonial into a family home for our 2 kids and crazy dog. We have added, renovated, decorated, and organized our house over the past 9 years but we still have plenty of projects on the horizon - both DIY and hired out!

Blog of the Month - November 2011

houseblogging-blogofthemonthbadge-november2011

Over the last 10 years, Melissa and Jim have purchased a 1940s brick colonial home and then completed a massive project to double the home's size and fully renovate it. Now they have a beautiful home with lots of period charm right along side some great modern conveniences like a gorgeous master suite and open plan kitchen & family room. Since completing their addition and renovations in 2009, HOUSEography was born. Through their blog, they share loads of fun decorating ideas and provide great inspiration for the rest of us as they work through their post-renovation to-do list. Be sure to stop by and discover another blog just begging to be added to your "must read" list!

Screen Porch Progress: Paint or Stain on the Ceiling???

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

I owe you a real update on the porch but the last few days have been hectic  to say the least!!  I'm struggling for the first time in this entire project.  I cannot decide whether to paint or stain the ceiling which is beautiful as it is but I am just not a bare wood person (despite some other bare...

Screen Porch Progress: Framing

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

We got back from London and were happy to see some progress while we were gone.  Of course, I was dreaming of a fully framed and roofed porch ready for paint screens and electricity.... Ummmm... no.  Clearly I was delirious!!

But, the framing had a good start and the roof was going on when we arrived home.

Screen Porch Progress: Brick Foundation

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

I'm a couple of weeks behind on the porch progress but since the progress has been rather slow (for reasons unknown but I'm sure there are some) I can catch you up in a few short posts.

When we last left-off, the workers were harvesting bricks from the side of the porch which will be covered by a new foundation and...

London Vacation

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

Sorry for the sudden disappearance but we had a little vacation planned... to London!  We packed up the family and flew out on March 30th and spent 8 great days in this beautiful city. I lived there for a semester in college so it was a homecoming of sorts for me, but Jim and our kids have never been there so...

Master Bedroom: Built-ins (yes, I'm addicted)

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

It's official - no room in our house is safe from built-ins! The master bedroom is no exception. Our television needs a home and this messy corner is the only real option.

Much like the other built-ins around our house, we'll have a cabinet with doors below and some open shelving above. The TV will go in the...

Family Room: Pillow Joy

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

Not sure why but new throw pillows give me a lot of joy. Since we got our new sectional almost a month ago, it quickly became clear that we needed some new throw pillows. Of course, I have seen some gorgeous pillows at HomeGoods and Marshalls over the past few months but when I go to buy them, they are all gone.

The...

Living Room: Hello Beauty

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

I cruised through HomeGoods a couple of weeks ago hoping to hit on something to kickstart my living room coffee table décor.  I quickly headed to the glassware wall and spotted this beautiful blue glass vase. Hello Beauty.  She practically jumped into my cart.  It's huge and for $16.99, it was well...

Den: Closet Organization (Part 1 of 40?)

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

There are loads of projects to be done in the den closet. This is and always will be a catchall closet for, well, everything.  One of its purposes is to hold all of my wrapping supplies. With 2 kids at prime birthday party ages, we use this stuff constantly.  I wanted to first tack the ribbon which was...

Porch: Demolition

Authors: Melissa at HOUSEography

Demolition started yesterday. It was pretty awesome to come home to work and see this...

When we saw this corner, we knew we were doing the right thing by ripping this off and replacing it with something more solid. I'm not an expert but that looks like termite and water damage.

I find demolition so satisfying even...
