Madison Square

Two married architects living in an 1870's brick rowhouse on a garden block in Center City Philadelphia. We work, we work on our house, we take pictures with our iphones and try to write a little something that makes sense.  What you see is what we did… it’s just how we roll.

2012: Half a Year in Review, Part II

Authors: madisonsquare

Sure, the first half of 2012 was busy, but the second half was worth it just for these two photos…

July:
We installed our beautiful new stained glass window in our renovated and restored living room with the help of McElf  and our families!  We stared at the window for a few days, then busted our booties to get ready for...

2012: Half a Year in Review, Part I

Sometimes project ideas happen by accident. This one happened when we were spray painting our living room radiator cover in the alley. A neighbor was moving and along with a few old chairs etc she brought out a beat up...

Sunday Odds Ends

Authors: madisonsquare

We took advantage of today’s unseasonably warm weather to check off a few items off of our to do list…

Spray Paint, Our Friend

Authors: madisonsquare

Somehow we forgot to tell the story of our living room radiator cover. If you were paying super close attention, you may have noticed it went from this:

Stark white glossy metal, plain front:

To this:

Warm matte bronze, still metal, but with some articulation in the front panel:

We swapped in the slightly more detailed dining...

Exhausted!

Authors: madisonsquare

Sunday morning started with a pile of sheet metal…

And after some measuring and sketching we figured out how to fit it all together in the very tight space.

The first piece we had to make was a plenum box behind the exterior discharge louver. Both the basement shop exhaust and kitchen exhaust dump into this box, each with...
