At last, my clematis bloomed. People in the northwest have clematis vines that are threatening to eat their houses. They are incredibly easy to grow, unless you are me.I have no idea what kind it is, as I planted it almost four years ago. I moved it a few times, then finally settled it next to my 'Moonlight' climbing hydrangea....

As you may have seen in our post last Friday, I've volunteered to host a baby shower at our home this coming weekend. Well, in true Old Town Home fashion, I may have underestimated the time and detail needed to successfully pull off this project. In an effort to get back on track, the co-host and I set out this past weekend on an...

Who smells smoke? Don’t panic, that’s just Clara’s dragon party, rollin’ into town (er, the internet?). Note: you can’t really smell this party through your computer, so if you smell smoke, please look into it. This year’s party was lower key than our last two (here’s her first...

On a recent business trip, a coworker and I were comparing notes on our attempted low-carb diets. I try to eat low-carb when possible, simply because it is the easiest way to keep my weight down while not denying myself the joy of eating.
The biggest problem, however, is breakfast. If breakfast isn’t already made, I’m...

Hello all! First of all, I have to send out prayers to those in Oklahoma. We are just seeing all the news this morning and it’s heartbreaking. I’m back today with a recap of the recent Home Depot video shoot at my house. When they contacted me about doing a video in the backyard a couple months ago I was all, sure, that sounds like fun!...

Remember how I was afraid when I split and transplanted the coreopsis that I might kill it? Well I did. It went from thisTo this
No question about that. D. E. A. D.
The one on the other side of the yard I split it from looks like it's on a path to a similar fate
It hasn't completely left us yet, but it certainly looks like it's...

It's an Indigo Girls reference. Get it? In a bit of poor timing, I had Strange Fire in the disc changer in my car for awhile just before I did this project, and now I can't get that song (or at least that line) out of my head.
I came up with the idea for this project one day while I was in the shower, which is, historically,...

I was due yesterday but guess who is still with child? I never thought I would go over my due date.Since I knew my daughter would feel a little left out at the hospital when baby boy arrives, I felt the need to create something just for her. I had seen on an episode of an infamous television show, the...

I know. I haven't talked much about the garden here at all since last year. This is because we haven't done much with the garden. Why? There is no reason. None. Sure. We've been planning the attic renovation and, for the past four weeks, we've been busy carrying out that attic renovation. But last year, I couldn't get...

Ryan and I truly hate to mulch. But yet, every year, we forget how much we hate it and add more areas to mulch.
I cannot tell you why we do this. Actually, I can. It’s because we hate mowing, too. Not yard work fans up in here.
This year, I insisted upon mulching everything the week before Henry’s party....

While I had the drywall lift rented, I became just a little over ambitious and decided to tackle the dining room ceiling while I had the lift. The ceiling in the dining room had the same awesome acoustic tiles stapled to it, and I wanted to tackle this job prior to us moving in, as my wife doesn't...

I’d continue that rhyme from my oh-so-super title but the only thing I can think of that rhymes with “walls” in the .74 seconds I am giving myself to spend on this beginning is “Could you, would you something something balls” and we just won’t go there. Except we probably already did. Apologies.

I am not the world's most patient person. That doesn't always make me a good thrift shopper, the kind that will wait to strike until the exact item and price is right.
